Where Can You Buy Couch Covers? Choose by Fit First

Start with your sofa's identity and shape, then choose a cover seller—not the other way around.

You can buy couch covers from the original sofa manufacturer, a model-specific cover specialist or a made-to-measure supplier. IKEA, Bemz and Comfort Works are three current places to start. Choose between them by the sofa you own: an exact model match is a different purchase from an adjustable cover or a custom pattern.

First decide what “cover” means for your job. A replacement set dresses the frame and intended cushions; a cushion cover may cover only one part; an overlay or draped cover sits over existing upholstery. These are not interchangeable orders. This guide compares buying routes from supplier information checked September 28, 2026—not hands-on product tests or a ranking of durability.

Where to shop, and when each route makes sense

Buying route Current place to check Choose it when Do not assume
Model-specific replacement from the original brand IKEA sofa covers Your exact series, sofa size and component are listed A sofa cover includes a chaise or fits another generation with a similar name
Third-party model-specific cover Bemz, including named IKEA models Your model is supported and you want to compare the offered fits and fabrics All covers from one supplier fit every IKEA sofa
Adjustable, draped cover Bemz Multi Fit Your sofa's shape and every dimension fit the stated range, and you want a relaxed draped result The word adjustable removes size limits; this line excludes corner sofas and futons
Made-to-measure Comfort Works custom covers The supplier accepts your sofa's shape and you can complete its photo and measurement process Custom means every shape is eligible or no measuring work is needed

If your model is known, check the manufacturer's replacement listing first. Photograph the product label and retain the purchase record if available. Match the model, configuration and component description before choosing color. An apparent match in a lifestyle photo is weaker than a named compatible model.

For an unknown sofa, ask a custom supplier to review the shape before spending time on a full measurement set. Comfort Works' current custom program excludes recliners, Victorian-style pieces, camelback sofas with uneven seat depths, and kidney or scooped-back sofas. It requests front, side and back photos, including views with and without cushions; lift only normally loose cushions, not attached upholstery. Its measurement support page explains that orders needing measurements receive a guided Measure Tool.

A local upholsterer or slipcover maker is another route to investigate when online eligibility is unclear. Ask whether the quote is for a removable slipcover or reupholstery: replacing attached upholstery is a different job. Do not assume either service is offered until the maker confirms it.

Why the right seat count can still be the wrong size

Bemz's Multi Fit guide specifies outermost measurements. Its three-seat range is 220–240 cm wide, 75–95 cm deep and 80–95 cm high. These are limits for that cover line, not a general definition of a three-seat couch.

For a hypothetical sofa measuring 230 × 100 × 85 cm, width and height pass, but depth falls outside the 95 cm maximum. Buying it because “230 cm fits” ignores the dimension that fails. Do not compress the cushions to manufacture a smaller measurement.

Passing all three numbers is still not enough if the shape is excluded. Multi Fit's one-piece tied design is not intended for corner sofas, futons, wing chairs or wicker furniture. A model-specific sectional cover from the same company is a different product with its own compatibility record.

For a sectional, check what is actually in the cart

IKEA's catalog distinguishes, for example, KIVIK sofa and chaise covers and FINNALA sofa, chaise-section and armrest covers. A listing can therefore be a legitimate cover without being a complete sectional set. Its price alone cannot tell you which panels you will receive.

Our recommendation is to photograph the whole arrangement, then write one line for each item you expect covered: sofa frame, chaise frame, arms, seat cushions, back cushions and any ottoman. Send that list with the photograph and ask the seller to mark what the quoted order includes. If left/right orientation matters, use the seller's stated viewing convention and a labeled photo rather than relying on the word left alone.

For a modular sofa, also ask whether the proposed cover leaves connectors, permitted adjustments and any storage access usable. A cover that looks tidy in the assembled position may not be compatible with the way you change the furniture. Get that answer for the exact system; do not cut access openings into a new cover as a workaround.

Make the last decision on fabric, care and the complete quote

Request a swatch when available and inspect it beside the sofa in daylight and evening light. Confirm the exact fabric's cleaning and drying instructions before ordering. “Removable” does not by itself promise machine washing; use the cushion-cover washing guide for the separate care decision.

Compare the full order, including all required pieces, delivery charges and any quoted measuring or fitting service. Read the return and remake terms that apply to your chosen order, especially when dimensions or fabric are customized. If the seller has not resolved the model, shape or component list, postpone payment rather than treating a return as the fit plan.

The useful shortlist is simple: original or model-specific covers for an identified sofa; an adjustable cover only within its shape and size limits; and a confirmed custom route for an eligible sofa that lacks a ready pattern. Choose the seller that can document your actual fit—not the one showing the closest-looking room.
